From our engineers’ recent work
Photos from real call-outs: what the engineer found, and what was fitted.

Unvented cylinder with its relief valve taken off. The old valve had been discharging water non-stop.
The replacement temperature and pressure relief valve, sealed into the cylinder and checked for leaks.
Heating pipework under a lifted floorboard, traced as the reason a boiler kept losing pressure.
Wall opened beside a bath to trace the supply pipes while water came through the ceiling below.
Tracer gas regulator set up to find a hidden leak on a mains water supply.
Repair clamp fitted over a hole in an old lead supply pipe where there was no room to cut it out.
Two new stopcocks fitted on a replaced section of mains pipework, then tested to shut off fully.
New bath mixer tap, fitted after the old one leaked at the shower diverter, running on test.
When to call an emergency plumber
A plain rule of thumb from the jobs that cannot wait, and the ones that can.
Call now if
- Water is coming through a ceiling or light fitting
- A pipe has split and you cannot stop the flow at the stopcock
- The boiler is leaking onto its own wiring or the pressure keeps falling to zero
- No heating or hot water with a baby, an elderly person or someone unwell at home
- A toilet or waste pipe is backing up and it is the only one in the house
It can usually wait until morning if
- A slow drip from a tap or a valve you can isolate
- A radiator that is cold at the top and warms after bleeding
- A running toilet you can stop by closing its isolation valve
Not sure? Emergency or can it wait walks through the grey areas, and our prices show what a call-out costs before you decide.
Questions people ask
How much does an emergency plumber cost in London with you?
The call-out is £60, whatever the hour. The engineer finds the fault, then gives you one price for the repair and waits for your yes before starting.
Do you come out at night and at weekends?
Yes. We take emergency plumbing and boiler call-outs 24 hours a day, every day of the year, across London and everywhere inside the M25.
Can you repair gas boilers?
Yes. Gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers. If you smell gas, open windows, turn the gas off at the meter if you safely can, avoid switches, get outside and call 0800 111 999 before anyone else.
What should I do while I wait?
Turn off the water at the stopcock if water is escaping, keep water away from sockets, and switch the boiler off at its fused spur if it is leaking.
Help while you wait
Leaks & burst pipesSigns of a Hidden Water LeakTo detect a water leak you cannot see, turn off every tap and water-using appliance and read your water meter twice, an hour apart. Any movement means water is escaping. Then shut the stopcock: if your meter is outside and it still moves, the leak is usually on the underground supply pipe; if it stops, the leak is inside the house.- Leaks & burst pipesThames Water: How to Report a Leak (and What Happens Next)
